 Flax - A Healthy Food 
Learn the health benefits of flax, along with how to incorporate flax into cooking and recipes.  Watch a cooking demonstration to see how easy flax can be added to recipes.  
                      Date/Time:   Thursday, September 2nd, 5:00-6:00 p.m.
                      Fee:            Free for YMCA members; $15 for non-members

Super Suppers
This cooking demo features speedy recipes for those who are on the go, don’t have a lot of time to spend in the kitchen or maybe don’t like to cook. We’ll use real, fresh ingredients, along with a little prep work, to create a satisfying and nutritious supper for you and/or your family.  
                     Date/Time:   Tuesday, September 14, 12:00- 1:00 p.m.
                     Fee:             Free for YMCA members; $15 for non-members

Quick and Easy Meals
This class will demonstrated easy heart healthy recipes that you can make at home. 
                      Date/Time:   Tuesday, September 21st, 6:30- 7:30 p.m.
                      Fee:               Free for YMCA members; $15 for non-members

Eating Seasonally
The dietitian will discuss how to enjoy the seasonal foods that are growing in your garden, available at the farmer's market and in stores.
                     Date/Time:  Saturday, September 25, 9:00-10:00 a.m.
                     Fee:            Free for YMCA Members; $15 for non-members


INTUITIVE EATING: Weight Management Class

Mercy Center for Weight Reduction's Intuitive Eating program - led by Katie Kruger, RD, LD - is designed for the "chronic dieter" and covers the "Ten Principles of Intuitive Eating" including:

  • Reject the Diet Mentality
  • Honor Your Hunger
  • Make Peace with Food
  • Challenge the Food Police
  • Respect Your Fullness
  • Discover the Satisfaction Factor
  • Honor Your Feelings Without Using Food
  • Respect Your Body
  • Exercise - Feel the Difference
  • Honor Your Health

The next 12-week series begins Monday, May 3rd and runs every Monday from 5:00-6:00 pm.  Cost is $120 for YMCA members and Mercy employees and $180 for others (fee includes Intuitive Eating book). Mercy Weight Loss and Nutrition Center for YMCA members
Mercy Weight Loss and Nutrition Center is pleased to offer the following classes free of charge to YMCA Healthy Living Center Members.  All classes are taught by Mercy weight loss and wellness experts.
 
  • The following classes are held weekly at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and noon on Fridays.
    August 3 and 6: Healthy Summer Alternatives, Jessica Schroeder, R.D., L.D.
    August 24 and 27: Adopting a Plant-Based Diet, Bridget Marcus
    August 31 and September 3: Artificial and Natural Sweeteners, Katie Kruger, R.D., L.D.

     
  • The following classes are held on Wednesdays from 1-2 p.m. presented by Jill Sudak-Allison, PH.D., LMHC, LMFT
    August 4: Humor in the Work Place
    August 11: Balancing Work and Family
    August 18: Achieving our Goals
    August 25: Stress and Emotional Eating
