YMCA Haiti Relief

Local Support, Global Response

Our colleagues at the YMCA of Haiti have taken a big blow. The core work of the YMCA of Haiti revolves around three youth centers. The mission of these centers is "to see all Haitian youth and children in school and living harmoniously within their family and in their community." This is incredibly important work since 80% of the population lives in poverty. The largest center, located in Port-au-Prince, was totally destroyed in the earthquake. The other two centers were spared and are currently being used as housing for the homeless and other relief efforts. Click here for updated information on Haiti.

The YMCA organization worldwide has a long-standing history of responding to critical needs. We (the Des Moines YMCA) were the recipient of worldwide generosity in 1993 when several of our facilities were severely damaged due to the flooding along the Des Moines River, so we have been on the receiving end. The situation in Haiti is critical and we must respond.
